We Speak Dance is an international exploration of dance cultures worldwide, showcasing how movement bridges human connections, geographical landscapes, and cultural identities. Created by Vandana Hart—a former UN advisor and Alvin Ailey-trained dancer—the series journeys across diverse regions to reveal dance's role as a transformative force. Season 1, which features Indonesia, Vietnam, France, Nigeria, and Lebanon, examines dance's potential as a political instrument. Through a tapestry of styles spanning rural communities, subterranean collectives, and renowned performance venues, the show demonstrates how dance unites people across revolutions, spiritual rituals, and expressions of identity. The first season premiered globally on Netflix on January 1, 2018.
