Shooting has resumed on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe for the tenth anniversary season of BBC One’s beloved series Death In Paradise, marking it as one of the first BBC single-camera dramas to return to filming since the lockdown period. Red Planet Pictures, in collaboration with industry organizations, other production teams, and the BBC, has established a comprehensive Covid-19 protocol framework, incorporating safety measures such as social distancing, face coverings, and regular temperature and virus testing to mitigate health risks. A dedicated full-time supervisor is now on set to ensure compliance with these protocols and to integrate the latest public health guidelines into the production process. The well-being of the cast and crew remains the top priority, with the team adhering to both local Guadeloupe recommendations and national industry standards.
The cast, returning to the tropical island for their roles, includes Ralf Little as D.I. Neville Parker, Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, Tobi Bakare as D.S. JP Hooper, and Elizabeth Bourgine as Mayor Catherine Bordey. The tenth series promises more enigmatic murders, complex mysteries, and notable guest appearances, while also introducing unforeseen twists. One such surprise is the return of D.S. Florence Cassell, portrayed by fan-favorite Josephine Jobert. Florence, believing she’s prepared to resume her duties after her fiancé’s passing two years ago, now faces an unexpected challenge in her new position under Neville. Neville, however, is grappling with adapting to life in the Caribbean rather than merely existing there. With Florence’s support, he begins to embrace the present and gradually unveils hidden aspects of his past, including potential romantic revelations. Yet, the question lingers: is Neville truly suited for a life in the tropics? And can a romantic connection ever develop for him? The series also bids farewell to Ruby Patterson, who left a significant mark on Saint Marie in just two seasons, and DS Madeleine Dumas, with gratitude extended to Shyko Amos and Aude Legastelois-Bidé for their portrayals. The show welcomes a new addition in Tahj Miles, who plays 18-year-old delinquent Marlon Pryce. Full of energy and self-assurance, Marlon’s life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters JP, prompting him to reconsider his future.
JP’s new challenges extend beyond the arrival of twins, as both Marlon and internal workplace changes test his limits. Selwyn’s focus shifts from his struggles with the new detective protagonist to a personal crisis, while Catherine finds herself in peril after a friend’s death disrupts her routine.
